ALGERIES, Algeria: Tanzania has officially opened an embassy in Algiers, Algeria as part of its continued efforts to strengthen multilateral cooperation and effective implementation of economic diplomacy.
The embassy has been launched by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Stergomena Tax and attended by her Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf and first Algerian envoy to Tanzania, Ambassador Noureddine Djoudi.
Speaking at the well-attended event in Algiers on Thursday, Dr Tax cited the agriculture, mining, tourism, oil and gas, health, manufacturing, energy and the blue economy sectors as areas where the two countries are determined to strengthen their cooperation.
“I believe that the launching of this embassy will boost the economic growth between our two countries especially through the eight areas of cooperation that we agreed during the 5th session of the Joint Algerian-Tanzanian Cooperation Commission that commenced two days ago in Algeria,” she noted.
On his part, Algeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Attaf said that embassies play a vital role in promoting and strengthening cooperation between countries for the benefit of the countries since they act as a bridge.
According to the Ministry, the volume of trade between Tanzania and Algeria has been slow compared to the available opportunities as he expressed his optimism that the opening of Tanzania’s diplomatic office in Algeria will reverse the situation.
