South Australia Premier Peter Malinauskas has stressed the state is “up for the challenge” and “excited” about the prospect of manufacturing AUKUS submarines.
Mr Malinauskas said he recognised the opportunity that the federal government has provided South Australia also imposes a “degree of responsibility” on the state.
“We are committed to delivering that workforce,” he said during a press conference on Monday.
“It’s a necessary commitment to our nation’s defence but an exciting opportunity for industrial advancement here in South Australia.
“There are going to be challenges, of course, across the next decade but we are up for every single one of those challenges and are excited about it and we are getting on with the task.”
