Justin Thomas has long been an integral part of golf’s elite. The now 29-year-old has made a name for himself with numerous PGA Tour victories, two major titles, two Ryder Cup participations and conquering the top of the world rankings. No wonder the Kentucky pro got a spot on the Netflix documentary Full Swing. Thomas, the collaboration with his father Mike and the rivalry with friend Jordan Spieth are highlighted in the first episode .

Netflix followed Justin Thomas on one of his greatest successes

Justin Thomas was born into a golf family, his father has been the Head Professional at Harmony Landing Country Club in Kentucky since 1990 and his grandfather was also a golf coach and played at the US Open. Thomas started playing golf at the age of two and spent his free time helping his father on the range and collecting balls. At 14, he competed at the Evian Junior Masters in France, where he met his friend and competitor, Jordan Spieth, who remains to this day, as seen in the Netflix documentary. After graduating from high school, he went to the University of Alabama and later received the Haskins Award for America’s Outstanding College Golfer. At just 16, he competed in the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour and was the third youngest player to make the cut.

Thomas’ greatest achievements

Justin Thomas turned pro in 2013 and quickly became a player on the PGA Tour . 2017 was probably THE year of Justin Thomas. In addition to three already won tournaments and his first major victory at the PGA Championship, he finally also won the FedExCup final. Not only did he win $10 million in extra prize money, he also joined the small circle of players who managed to win five tournaments on the PGA Tour, including one major, before their 25th birthday. He lined up alongside Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woodsand buddy Jordan Spieth. In addition, he managed to play a round under 60 during his first tournament round at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2017 as the youngest and seventh player on the PGA Tour (59). In 2018 and 2021, Thomas also proved himself to be a valuable member of the American Ryder Cup team.

“Full Swing” about relationship with father Mike

To date, Justin Thomas has achieved 15 tour wins, including a total of two major wins. He celebrated his second major victory at the PGA Championship 2022 – accompanied by the Netflix documentary “Full Swing”. Viewers get deep insights into the relationship with his father and coach Mike. Father Mike and mother Jani have been following their son as often as they can since the beginning and have been on the 18th green for most of the title wins. Mike Thomas also plays the important role of coach, as the Netflix documentary shows. He doesn’t hide his pride and enthusiasm for his son’s game: he collects every golf ball that Justin plays in his victories. The father-son team has also demonstrated their team spirit by taking part in the PNC Championship, the parent-child tournament on the PGA Tour, several times.
