More than 50 countries of the world will take part in the meeting
In Brussels today, February 14, a meeting within the framework of “Ramstein” begins , where new military assistance to our country will be discussed. Ukraine expects from this meeting significant progress in the issue of deliveries of the F-16 fighter jets it needs.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov arrived at the meeting and has already met with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. Austin announced this on his Twitter page this morning .
“It’s always a pleasure to meet my good friend and Ukrainian colleague Oleksiy Reznikov. More than 50 member countries of the UDCG (Ukrainian Defense Contact Group) have united with you in this fight for the sovereignty and self-defense of Ukraine,” he said and added to the post a video of the meeting with Reznikov.play video
At the same time, the British newspaper Financial Times, citing its own sources in Washington, reports that the United States allows the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. This issue will also be raised during today’s meeting of NATO defense ministers in the Ramstein format.
It is noted that Kyiv considers the supply of fighters from the allies as a long-term goal. The main emphasis now is still on the supply of ammunition for our military. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in turn, confirmed that the issue of transferring the F-16 is being discussed.
“The issue of fighter jets is not the most urgent, but it is being discussed. Consultations are now taking place between NATO countries regarding the types of support to Ukraine and we will continue these discussions. Our assistance to Ukraine is changing and will change as the conflict develops,” Stoltenberg said .
It should be noted that on the eve of “Ramstein” Alexei Reznikov voiced the main issues that will be discussed today during the meeting of defense ministers. Among them:
- the development of a “tank coalition”;
- formation of a margin of safety for ammunition;
- training programs for the Ukrainian military;
- protection of the Ukrainian sky, including through the involvement of an aviation platform;
- stability of support – logistics, maintenance, repair, practical implementation of the “Military Schengen”.
Recall that earlier the ex-speaker of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, military expert, Colonel Vlad Voloshin told Telegraph about what are the expectations from Rammstein and what the future plans of the Russians are .
